Meet the Team

  • Sabia Akbar, DO, FACOG

    Dr. Akbar is the newest addition to the Richmond Health Network. Dr. Akbar completed her OB/GYN residency at Richmond University Medical Center and is a Dyker Heights native. She is currently seeing patients in offices located in Staten Island and Brooklyn and is looking forward to promoting women’s preventative health services and serving the community she grew up in. She has a special interest in providing gynecological services to her patients.

    Dr. Akbar completed her undergraduate degree at CUNY Brooklyn College and graduated cum laude. She went on to obtain her medical degree at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, NY. Dr. Akbar is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists and a faculty member of the OB/GYN residency program at Richmond University Medical Center.

  • Dr. Benson has been delivering babies in Staten Island since 1998 when he began his residency training at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, and it has been his passion ever since. He completed his undergraduate studies and medical education at Rutgers University / Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey, as part of their prestigious 7–year BA/MD program, and graduated his residency training as a Chief Resident, receiving several awards and distinctions in the process.

    He is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a Fellow of the American College of OB/GYN. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of OB/GYN at New York Medical College.  He is highly skilled in the management of routine and high-risk pregnancies, as well as in various aspects of gynecologic surgery, including minimally invasive laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures. Despite being exceptionally well trained in the surgical treatment of various conditions, Dr. Benson values a conservative approach to multiple gynecologic disorders, including abnormal pap smears, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, abnormal uterine bleeding, etc., and always recommends starting with the least invasive treatment modality.

    Dr. Benson lives in New Jersey with his wife and two kids. When he is not working, he enjoys playing with his Golden Retriever, traveling, skiing, mountain biking, rock concerts, playing guitar, and riding his Harley-Davidson. Dr. Benson is fluent in English and Russian.

  • Michael Cabbad

    Dr. Cabbad is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as maternal fetal medicine and has over 40 years of experience caring for families with high risk pregnancies and providing consultation to physicians who also treat high risk pregnancies.   He served as the former director of obstetrics at Kings County Hospital before going to The Brooklyn Hospital Center where he took on the role of chief of Maternal Fetal Medicine, establishing an active perinatal diagnostic center that has performed over 10,000 fetal assessments a year. He served as program director of The Brooklyn Hospital Centers residency training program and as chairman of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for 20 years.

    With years of experience helping mothers with high risk pregnancies and reoccurring pregnancy losses, Dr. Cabbad is one of the foremost experts in transabdominal cerclage, or TAC procedures. A TAC involves an incision in the lower abdomen through which a small, woven synthetic band is placed high on the cervix. The band supports the cervix, preventing it from opening and losing a pregnancy.  He is the first physician on Staten Island capable of performing this procedure.

  • Michael Campanella, MD, FACOG

    Dr. Campanella originates from Old Bridge, New Jersey, where he lived the first 18 years of his life. In 1990, Dr. Campanella moved to Boston to attend Northeastern University. While in college, he worked as an operating room aide at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA and as an exercise technician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. These jobs were Dr. Campanella’s introduction into the field of medicine. He went on to receive his undergraduate degree in exercise Physiology from the university.

    In 1995, Dr. Campanella began working as a cardiovascular technician at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center, New York. He spent two years working in the operating room as part of the cardiothoracic team where he worked as an intra-operative assistant to the surgical team, as an anesthesiologist, and as an perfusionist. Dr. Campanella then transferred to the Cardiac Catheterization Lab where he assisted interventional cardiologists with angiograms and cardiac catheterizations.

    Dr. Campanella developed his love for medicine while working in these various support positions and decided to attend medical school in 1999. He entered the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico, and graduated in 2003. He completed the Fifth Pathway Program through New York Medical College and started residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Richmond University Medical Center, Staten Island, in 2004. Dr. Campanella served as the administrative chief resident. He was a two-time winner of the resident teaching award. In 2008, Dr. Campanella was awarded the Agustin N. Ravello award for displaying commitment to the field of OB/GYN and displaying compassion for his patients.

    In September 2008, Dr. Campanella entered group practice where he worked together with Dr. Simon Kokkinakis. Dr. Campanella has earned a reputation as a physician who is an active listener and takes the time needed to address every patient’s needs. In 2010, he was awarded the distinction of being one of America’s Most Compassionate Doctors.

    In July of 2014, Dr. Campanella, along with Dr. Kokkinakis, started Premier OBGYN and mainly serves the Staten Island and Brooklyn areas; however, many patients from New Jersey are also seeking Dr. Campanella’s services.

    Dr. Campanella offers a full range of care in obstetrics and gynecology. He manages high risk obstetric cases along with a maternal fetal medicine specialist, offers basic infertility treatments, and works closely with reproductive specialists. He is also proficient in laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and traditional pelvic surgery and stays up to date with advances in surgical technology.

    Dr. Campanella resides in New Jersey and lives with his wife and two children.

  • Upon the completion of his residency training in Obstetrics/Gynecology at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine in July 1989; Dr. Michael Grecco arrived in Staten Island, NY in August 1989. Dr. Grecco entered an Obstetrics/Gynecology practice known as “OB/GYN Associates of Staten Island”. The history of this practice dates back to the 1960s as it was very involved in the start-up of the OB/GYN residency program at the “old” Staten Island Hospital which was originally located on Castleton Avenue. An active member of the practice at the time was Dr. Grecco‘s uncle, Dr.  Louis Grecco. The predecessor “St. Vincent’s Medical Center” and its OB/GYN chairman Vincent Pillari, MD (a close family friend), recruited Dr. Michael Grecco and the practice in 1993.

     

    Dr. Grecco has been a part of the institution for the past 3 decades and it has been an honor and privilege to serve the institution and care for a generation of families at Richmond University Medical Center.

  • Angela Kerr, MD, FACOG

    Dr. Kerr is a board certified, practicing obstetrician and gynecologist in Brooklyn with over 30 years’ experience in all aspects of clinical practice. She is a member of the Richmond Health Network, affiliated with Richmond University Medical Center.

    Dr. Kerr earned her medical degree and completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at State University of New York Health Sciences University at Downstate Medical Center.

    She has served as director of Gynecology and program director for residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology for over 15 years and holds the academic position of Clinical Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology of The Icahn school of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

    Dr. Kerr’s practice includes normal maternity care and delivery, high risk obstetrics, and general gynecology. She has a special interest in preinvasive disease of the lower genital tract, performing colposcopy and related treatments. Gynecologic procedures include minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, vaginal surgery, and a vast experience in the management of fibroids.

    Dr. Kerr’s philosophy on patient care is to care for the whole patient with compassion, listening to each patient’s concerns and complaints and identifying conditions that keep them from optimal health.

    As the Designated Institutional Official at Richmond University Medical Center, Dr. Kerr is committed to the education of resident trainees and their academic development as physicians of the future, so they may provide quality patient care with sensitivity and compassion.

  • Simon Kokkinakis, MD

    Dr. Kokkinakis provides full obstetric and gynecologic services in Staten Island and Brooklyn including minimally invasive laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery as well as management of cervical abnormalities caused by HPV. Caring for routine and high-risk pregnancies has been a major focus of Dr. Kokkinakis’s practice. Furthermore, he has developed a special interest in the treatment of abnormal menstrual bleeding, and more specifically, managing uterine fibroids resulting in abnormal periods. He utilizes a combination of medical treatments and diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy and in some cases advocates for endometrial ablation as an outpatient alternative to hysterectomy.

    Dr. Kokkinakis is a certified da Vinci robotic surgeon and can perform many laparoscopic procedures robotically when indicated. He attends many seminars on topics such as high risk pregnancies, menopause, hormonal replacement therapy, and abnormal pap smears. He is eager to meet with and discuss this latest information with both new and established patients.

    A board certified fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. Kokkinakis received his undergraduate degree from New York University. He then spent two years at the Mount Sinai Medical Center researching the effects of thrombin. He went on to complete his medical training at the Ross University School of Medicine, where he graduated with honors. Dr. Kokkinakis completed his obstetrical and gynecological training at the Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo during which time he was a clinical assistant instructor at the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Science.

    Since completing his post-doctoral training, Dr. Kokkinakis has been involved in private practice and training residents at the Richmond University Medical Center. Dr. Kokkinakis is a clinical assistant professor at the New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. He has kept abreast of the advances in obstetrics and gynecology through continuing medical education courses.

    Dr. Kokkinakis and his wife have three children. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, competing in 1000 yard Bench rest target shooting, as well as skiing and scuba diving.

    Dr. Kokkinakis is fluent in English, Greek, and Spanish.

  • Dr. Pavlides has been practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology for 24 years.  Her path to OB/GYN started when she was accepted to the prestigious Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, an exclusive 7-year BS/MD program at CUNY, City College.  She obtained her medical degree from SUNY, Stony Brook, and completed a four-year residency at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Staten Island, New York. Dr. Pavlides graduated as a Chief resident and was also recognized with the Raul Ravelo, M.D. award.

    She is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  Through her years of serving the Staten Island community, Dr. Pavlides has also served as a Clinical Professor of OB/GYN at NY Medical College training medical students.  Dr. Pavlides is extremely proficient at laparoscopic surgeries, including hysterectomies and ovarian cyst management.  She enjoys her profession of OB/GYN as demonstrated by the over 4,000 deliveries she has had the privilege to perform.  She also specializes in the treatment of women of all ages for gynecologic reasons, as well as caring for pediatric and geriatric patients.

    Dr. Pavlides is originally from Queens, NY, and currently resides in Staten Island with her husband and two children.  She adores being a mom and claims she is truly soccer and a swim mom.  She enjoys cooking, traveling, and photography.  Dr. Pavlides is fluent in English and Greek and can communicate in Spanish.

  • Marino Poliseno, DO, MBA, FACOG

    Dr. Poliseno received his bachelor of arts in economics from SUNY Binghamton and went on to complete his DO at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York. He completed an internship at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, New York, and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center (now known as Richmond University Medical Center). Dr. Poliseno also completed his MBA at Quinnipiac University in July of 2020. In addition to seeing patients at 11 Ralph Place, Dr. Poliseno has been serving as the director of Labor and Delivery at Richmond University Medical Center since 2017. Dr. Poliseno is also the OB/GYN Residency Program director and is vice chairman for the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

  • Dr. Priolo is a board certified specialist in obstetrics and gynecology in Staten Island New York and has over 30 years of experience in the medical field. She utilizes her experience in maternal fetal medicine training, clinical experience, and dedication to providing care for high risk pregnant woman. She is affiliated with multiple hospitals in Staten Island, including Richmond University Medical Center.

    Dr. Louise Priolo was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from Wagner College with a B.S. in biology in 1982, and from New York Medical College in 1987. She completed her residency at Staten Island University Hospital and cowrote several published papers, including “HIV Infection in Women” and “Tuberculosis and Pregnancy,” during her MFM training.

    After holding a teaching-clinical position at Staten Island University Hospital, Dr. Priolo established her private practice, Hylan Women’s Medical Care, PC in 2001. She then met her husband Dr. Michael Grecco, a fellow ob-gyn doctor, and merged practices. Dr. Priolo has spent many years offering quality obstetric care to women in her community, and utilizes the latest advances in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeries.

  • For over a decade Dr. Rita Shats has been one of the leading physicians on Staten Island. She is one of the most beloved OB/GYN specialists in our community and one of the most respected colleagues at Richmond University Medical Center. Dr. Shats received her medical education at Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, West Indies and graduated as a Chief Resident from St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

    She is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Rita Shats, recently achieved board certification in pediatric and adolescent gynecology, making her the first obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) physician on Staten Island to achieve this specialized certification from the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). From Board Certification to becoming the first female physician at RUMC to train and perform robotic surgeries, from multiple awards recognizing her as one of the best attendings, teachers, colleagues at Richmond University Medical Center to becoming an Associate Director of Gynecology, Director of the Family Planning Clinic, Clerkship Director for the American University of Antigua and St. George University School of Medicine, and Associate Professor at New York Medical College, nothing defines her as a successful and powerful Doctor in the business of healthcare as do over 3,000 lives that she humbly brought into this world and who were lucky enough to see her beautiful smile and feel her enormous heart.

    Dr. Shats resides on Staten Island with her husband, two kids, one dog, two fish, and many pairs of shoes. She enjoys traveling and reading. She is very passionate about her love of cooking. Dr. Shats is fluent in English and Russian.

  • Lynda Surck has always had a strong interest in obstetrics and gynecology and has been working in the field since 2003.  As a certified Physician Assistant, Lynda enjoys developing close and long-lasting relationships with her patients while skillfully and compassionately providing the excellent care and services patients seek from an OB/GYN.

    Lynda earned her undergraduate degree from Long Island University Brooklyn.  She then went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant studies from Touro College in December 2001, passing her boards and earning her NCCPA certification in February 2002.

    When not in the office caring for her patients Lynda enjoys cooking, watching, and attending sporting events (Yankees & Rangers of course!), and spending time with her husband, son, and two Chihuahuas (Bradshaw & Zucc).

  • Inna Tubman, MD (OB/GYN)

    Dr. Tubman has been a practicing board certified OB/GYN physician since 2008. Dr. Tubman received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from New York University and then went on to complete medical school at St. Georges University in Grenada, West Indies. After completing her medical education, Dr. Tubman completed her residency at Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island in obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Tubman speaks fluent Russian.

  • Dr. Voice attended Ross University School of Medicine. She completed her residency at our home – Richmond University Medical Center. She has experience working at Advantage Care Physicians and RUMC since 2017 as an attending. Her specialty lies in OBGYN.
